Understanding The Simplicity of Faith

Updated: Jan 24

Faith is a subject that many people struggle with, but it is most easily understood through humility and trust. The heart, rather than the mind, is the best vehicle to use in the pursuit and development of faith.

5 Simple Things About Faith

  1. Faith Grows

(Matthew 13:31-32)

Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”

We may not have great faith at the start, but if we continue to walk closely with God in life, our faith will continue to grow throughout the years.

  1. Faith Requires Childlikeness

(Matthew 18:2-4)

Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

In this world, it's often the biggest, toughest, or smartest who get ahead in life, and that's why so many people become hard and selfish in life. But the Kingdom of God works differently from this world. God's Kingdom is a family, and the closer we become to our Heavenly Father, the greater faith we will have, because He will give more and more to us as we ask Him for it.

  1. Faith is Constant

(Luke 8:25)

But He said to them, “Where is your faith?”

And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”

We are always believing something and acting out of that belief. If we believe in the power of our problems, we will live in fear and worry. However, if we believe in God's promises in the Bible, we will see His power released in our hearts through faith, and we will overcome every obstacle in life.

  1. Faith must be Practiced

(Mark 5:35-36)

While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”

As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe.”

Some time ago, I began to practice believing in God every day. Often multiple times a day, I consciously turn on my believer (my heart) and enjoy believing in God. I have found this immensely satisfying personally, and credit it with the increase in my faith level.

(Romans 10:10)

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

  1. Faith has a Reward

(Hebrews 11:6)

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

We should also consider spending time regularly believing in the reward that God has waiting for us in heaven. Expecting to receive a reward for going through the difficulties of life helps us stay on track in our walk with God.

(Hebrews 11:26)

esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he looked to the reward

Read and ponder these scriptures and ask the Holy Spirit to grant you an understanding heart.
