5 Things To Help You In Your Human Race

We all have a race to run, a life to live, a moment in history. Whether our life is short and sweet or long and difficult is not really up to us, but it's the way we choose to compete that will ultimately affect the outcome. 5 Things To Help You In Your Human Race will offer simple keys that may benefit you greatly in life.

Principle Scripture

Therefore, we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us

(Hebrews 12:1)

After watching my children compete in athletics for many years, I have come to realize that there are some simple keys that, if followed, can greatly assist us in being successful as we navigate the human race.

5 Things To Help You In Your Human Race

  1. Make sure you are in the correct lane

Finding what we are meant to do and be in life is a revelation that many find both liberating and energizing. Without that knowledge, it's too easy to just run in circles and never really achieve anything lasting or worthwhile.

(Matthew 19:16)

Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?

  1. Stay in your lane

Your lane will provide everything needed for your leg of the human race. If we know that we are doing what we are meant to be doing, then we can confidently expect that whatever we need will be provided at the correct time.

(Matthew 6:28-30)

“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

  1. Don't get distracted by what others are doing

Comparing ourselves to others is a trap that is easy to fall into, but one that is both foolish and unproductive. Just because the guy in the next lane is wearing a tutu and doing micky-flips doesn't mean that you should too!

(Matthew 13:22)

Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

  1. Keep your eye on the finish line

What's really important to you personally? What do you want to achieve in your human race? What will be the legacy you leave behind, and how will you be remembered by those who will come after you?

(2 Timothy 4:7-8)

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

  1. Obtain your prize

If you don't let go before the finish line, if you don't stop short of breaking the ribbon, then there will surely be a reward awaiting you. Remember, God has promised us an eternal reward, but it takes endurance to obtain it.

(John 12:50a)

And I know that His command is everlasting life...

(1 Corinthians 9:24-27)

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore, I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
